Heidi Klum officially files for divorce

Nearly three months after announcing their split to the public, Heidi Klum formally filed for divorce from husband of seven years, Seal.

People.com reported that Klum was spotted filing the divorce petition on Friday afternoon in Los Angeles Superior Court. The reason for the split was cited as irreconcilable differences.

Klum is requesting joint legal custody of their four children Leni, 7, Henry 6, Johan, 5, and Lou, 2 but primary physical custody for her and visitation rights for Seal. She also requested to legally restore her maiden name (she changed it to Samuel, but continued to use Klum professionally).

The couple, who was married back in 2005 and was known for renewing their vows every anniversary, had grown apart according to the statement they released in January.

We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart. This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition, the statement read.

Klum remained quiet on the split until opening up in an interview with Elle, as previously reported by TheCelebrityCafe.com.

They want to keep it a secret, but for the people on the set, the matter is clear, the source explained.
